Atomic Guilt Trip

August 9, 2007

As most of you know, August 6th was the 62nd anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, which in conjunction with the bombing of Nagasaki three days later, convinced the Japanese to surrender unconditionally, something they had never done to another power in centuries.

Unfortunately, rather than commemorate the American victory over an aggressive power that attacked us without provocation, Cincinnati’s liberal rag, City Beat, calls the event, “one of the greatest crimes ever perpetrated by a government in human history.”

(No mention is made of the estimated millions killed in Nazi Germany during the Third Reich or the tens of millions killed in Stalinist purges during the Soviet era.)

This is typical of left-wing hack journalism- ignore inconvenient facts like Truman’s warning the previous July to surrender or “face prompt and utter destruction” or the fact that the projected casulties for an all-out invasion on mainland Japan would have cost a million US servicemen their lives and at least as many Japanese civilians through war, disease, and starvation.

City Beat clearly does not care about reporting the facts in their entirety. For even the most casual reader, this sophomoric patchwork of yarn-weaving that passes for journalism delights in sensationalistic “reporting” with the sole end of furthering its extremist views that even mainstream liberals avoid like the plague.
